Hi readers sorry for the delay in posting but have been very busy and very injured :(

On Sunday 7th of April I unfortunately damaged my ankle and spent a few hours in A&E getting it looked at. fortunately not broken but has slowed me down so sorry for the delay.

So on to more recent events.

Light Painting.

For those of you who have not heard of light painting. Light painting is a very creative style of photography. It involves a long shutter, Low ISO, A tripod and various light sources like torches.

This is a beautiful light painting and way harder than anything i could do at the minute.

The hardest part of doing light paintings is you can't see where you've painted.

The camera sees the light streaks once the exposure finishes but you cant so a lot of it is guess work and practice.

My 1st experiment of a light painting wasn't so bad TBH. My dad is the king of torches, he has all sorts big ones, small ones some as big as your head.

I asked about borrowing 1 or 2 torches and he was amazingly helpful. When looking at lights its important to get the right thing.

I wanted 2 torches, something nice and refined with a narrow beam and also a nice defused light for a bit of area work.

Using basic work lights I was able to have a decent go. This was shot on my phone so it isn't perfect.

Light Trail Done On My Phone

ISO 50, F1.7 Exposure Time 10 seconds

So like I said this was shot on my phone so it isn't the best. My phone is good for some pics but just doesn't have the control I have with my SLR

One good thing about my phone is in pro mode it does shoot in raw so a little bit of tinkering is possible.

So I've had a little play with this pic. I've changed the hue to give it a more ghostly green colour. I've tweaked other little things.

I had no clue what shape I was gonna do. I just went for a simple streak.

Im hopefully going to be going on another light shoot 1 night this weeks so should have more soon.

Things to remember when your doing your own Light Painting

1)Wear dark clothes

You don't want to see yourself in the pic so dark clothes are a must

2)Low ISO

low ISO gives you longer to work

3)Tripod

You will need a tripod to hold the camera steady as exposure will be a good couple of seconds to sometimes a few minutes

4)Light

your torch will be your brush, the scene is your canvas. Do you want a big brush with lots of light? or small lights for precision detail?

Most of all remember to experiment and have fun.
